Give Yourself a Pat on the Back

Many times I have shared my love of quotes with you. Throughout my home you will see words and quotes decorating my walls, end tables and shelves. They motivate, uplift and inspire me to be my very best.

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.” ~ Arthur Rubinstein

My passion for quotes began in High School but really became an obsession during my 9 months of marathon training back in 1999.

I was unable to walk for a whole week after that, so much did the race take out of me. But it was the most pleasant exhaustion I have ever known.
Emil Zatopek's description of the Olympic Marathon win in Helsinki

Through the years I have collected thousands of quotes...
Book of Possibilities by Me
Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.
C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)

I have books, calendars, scraps of paper and notesbooks filled with famous and not so famous words of wisdom. These are my some of my greatest treasures!

I have overcome some of my greatest fears with the help of others words...

Page by Me
“To overcome a fear, here's all you have to do: realize the fear is there, and do the action you fear anyway.”
 Peter McWilliams

During my 5 years of writing "View from the From Porch" I turned to the inspiration of others words.

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.
Helen Keller
Today I find myself not only turning to my books, my notes and calendars but when I'm having real writer's block I end up on the computer, surfing the net which nearly every time leads me to YOUR blogs. Your stories, your words lift me up, inspire me and give me a renewed vigor to keep pursuing my passion.
So today, my friends...give yourself a pat on the back, a high five, a smile. Remember that YOU truly make a difference. The time you spend typing, searching and sharing...it means something.
It means something to me.

  11. My favorite quote:

"We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us" ~Joseph Campbell

It's in my blog's header. Those words have helped me move on to a place I wasn't sure I could go.

    Gotta love quotes!

  17. This was an amazing post - heartwarming and honest. I have loved quotes since high school, too. My mom collected them and when she moved to heaven, going thru her papers was such a wonderous time - quotes copied on scraps of paper, in filing cabinets, stuck in books, on the fridge, and in her Bible. While mourning her leaving, I was still able to connect with her in such a strong way, seeing the types of quotes she kept and how much alike we really were. Thanks for that memory this morning.
