I love Mondays!!! Just for the simple fact that each and every Monday {or thereabouts} I share an AMAZING woman blogger with you!!
I started "Make My Monday" as a way to promote and make you aware of just how many talented women there are in blogland. There are so many to choose from!!! This week I chose to interview Angie from "All My Treasures". I just know it was meant to be....because the way I found her blog was so random!
Every now and then I visit Tosca Reno's site {every now and then} and sometimes when I go to a blog I will click on someone's link in the comment section. That is what happen with Angie. She was just some random link I clicked on. As soon as I got to her blog...well...I couldn't stop reading. I enjoyed the personal feel of it. She writes as if we were chatting over coffee. And her taste in decorating...so much like I want to be:)
So sit back and enjoy today's interview with Angie...and be sure and stop by her blog today!!!:)
Hey, Ang!! May I call you that? I'm a Leslie but EVERYONE I know calls me Les...I only say Leslie on my blog {hee hee}. Anyway...thanks for agreeing to the interview!
Of course you can call me Ang!
I found you in the funniest of ways...I was reading one of my favorite workout blogs by Tosca Reno and saw your comment. I clicked on your name and once I was at your blog I couldn't stop reading!! Loved it right away!! How long have you been a blogger? Tell us about your theme, what inspires you, etc.
I started my blog in April of 2009 after finding My Sweet Savannah's blog from Rate My Space. My original intention was to be able to comment without it saying "anonymous." One month later I wrote my first blog post. Lissa from humble pie was my first commenter!!
As for the theme of my blog, I wanted something meaningful that would still relate to decorating. I came up with Treasures a.k.a. All My Treasures. I had lived a very nice life for over 10 years. Full of abundance and excess, never realizing that I was taking everything for granted. It wasn't until 2008 when we almost lost everything that I learned how to Treasure what was important. No matter what our financial situation, I don't ever want to go back to the way I was.
I am inspired by everyone and everything. Sounds vast and vague all at once doesn't it?
I can't help it, everything and everyone has some form of inspiration to offer. You just have to be willing to see it.
Every week you share some fabulous {cheap} treasure you've found!! Love that! Where do you find your treasures? How long have you been at this hobby?
I shop yard sales, thrift stores, craigslist and sidewalks!!
You'd be amazed what some people just give away!
Decorating has always been a hobby but it wasn't until recently I started hunting for Treasures to transform. About 8 months ago I needed a cabinet to house all of my scrapbook supplies and could no longer afford to go pick out whatever I wanted. I found my first Treasure on Craigslist for $25.00. It was a secretary cabinet. I used some paints from left over home projects and paid $6.00 for new knobs. It turned out beautiful and from that point I was hooked.
I've always wondered...do you keep everything you find and re-do or do you sell your treasures?
I didn't set out to sell anything. I just knew I'd most likely never buy a new piece of furniture again. After seeing how much friends and family liked what I did I decided to go ahead and have my first sale. It was a huge success! I plan on having more, I just won't be selling anything through the blog. It's a place for me to tell my story and that's it.
Love hearing about your kiddo's. Do they get into the treasure hunting, too?
Funny you should ask that. Just a couple of weeks ago my son a.k.a Lil' Man asked how much I made at the sale. When I told him he said "WOW can I help you?" At first I laughed but as I thought about it I thought, what a great way to prepare him for earning money in the future. I decided, if he discovered any Treasures while out and about (whether that be with me, his dad, Grandmas and so on) I would pay him a flat fee. He thought about it for a second and then said "I'll take 10% of whatever it sales for" He's 11!!!!
I agreed but had I known that from then on every time he saw something on the side of the road he'd scream "I SEE SOMETHING" I might not have done it!
Lil' Red, decided she wanted in on the action too so she now takes care of the inventory for me. She's got her little notebook where she writes down what the Treasure is, how much we paid for it and the cost of supplies. I haven't worked out her fee yet but something tells me I could offer her a candy bar every now and then and she'd be set!
Now a few just for fun questions....
Top 5 favorite movies at the moment
I haven't been able to get to the theatre lately so my selections are older ones.
1) The Notebook (I still can't believe YOU haven't seen it yet)
2) Blindside, such a great story.
3) Hangover, cause who doesn't want to laugh that much.
4) The Hurt locker, one of those movies you don't expect much from but ended up loving.
5) Food inc., because without it I would have never sought out Tosca Reno's blog and then we may have never become friends!
Top 5 favorite books....
When it comes to books, it's either inspirational or comedy there's no in between for me!
1) Living Artfully by Sandra Magsamen
2) The Momstown Guide To Getting It All, a life makeover for stay at home moms by Mary Goulet and Heather Reider
3) Are you there Vodka? It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
4) Such A Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster
5) To be determined! ;)
What is your favorite decorating color and why?
Lately I have been obsessed with the color "Teal Shadow" from Vista paints. I've never been a blue person before but this deep shade of it with it's hint of green has got me mesmerized! I'm actually in the process of redecorating my living room because of this color.
You are always going to so many sells...anything you really want to find but haven't yet? What would be your ultimate treasure?!
This is a great question! With the exception of the scrapbook cabinet, I haven't looked for anything specific. Part of the fun is not knowing what you'll find. I think if I focused to much on wanting that "one Treasure" I'd probably miss the great things that were right in front of me!
As for the ultimate Treasure, I'm not sure what it is yet but you can bet when I find it I'll be blogging about it!!
Thank you so much Les, I really enjoyed this and feel honored to be a part of your Make My Monday interviews!
