Smash 45

I am an over thinker.
Especially when it comes to creating.
I envy people that can just "go with it".
They have a blank canvas before them
and they just go with it.

My Emmi is like that. She just starts working.
She doesn't plan
or obsess
or worry about colors
or any silly thing like that...
she just goes with her heart.

I want to be like that.
I want to create from my heart.
I don't want to over think.

That's why I'm doing this...

Smash 45.

I'm sure you've heard all about
the latest "Smash Book" craze.
I remember the first time I saw one these I went nuts.
That is soooo me!!!

Yesterday just happened to be my 45th Birthday:)
Sooooo, in honor of the best year of my life
I am working daily in my very own Smash Book...

Smash 45.

My book before

I want this book to be unlike anything
I've ever done.

My book with gesso on front and back

It will be filled with ticket stubs,
receipts, quotes, notes,
maps, post cards, ideas,
photos, labels...
anything that documents my day.

A pile of my fave words, quotes and images

Last weekend was spent with my Aunt and cousins.
We celebrated my Birthday on Friday...
that's where Smash 45 begins...

I included a biz card from an artist I met,
the receipt from our fancy dinner and a
images that just spoke to me.
I also included snips of memories throughout the page.

This page took me 5 minutes to glue down.
So fun and easy!!

Here's my page from yesterday...

The only piece of paper I collected was from our movie.
I should have grabbed our receipt from dinner, too.

Real Steel is wonderful, by the way!!!!

My goal with Smash 45 is
to not only document my 45th year of life
but also to discipline myself
to do something creative every
single day. I think it's a win/win.

So what about you?
Have you ever created a Smash Book?
What is your theme?

Please share!!

Oh and by the way...
this is me today....

Pretty scary, right? I don't feel good...
darn old cold.

  1. Happy birthday! Your "Smash 45" idea is great. How fun to find a quick and easy way to document your days without having to overthink. (I tend to be an overthinker too, so I know where you are coming from!) I hope you will continue to share some of your pages as your book develops!

  4. Happy Birthday!!! You look beautiful, even with a cold. ;-) I've never heard of a Smash Book, but it sounds fun! I've always wanted to do a [written] journal to document my days, but have found it intimidating. This is a great way to keep the memories without the worry! :-)

  5. Happy Birthday (again)!!
I LOVE your Smash Book idea. I had already decided to do something like that to document the year I am 60, which begins this November, in the middle of NaNoJouMo/AEDM/NaBloPoMo. Something creative every day, YES!!

  7. Happy Birthday! Very cool... I've been doing this with my regular journal. I have two. I just started a 8 1/2 x 11 one with larger images and items I wanna save and my regular size. I've been journaling since I was 10 years old and recently began getting a little "bored." I've been cleaning and organizing and came across a lot of old cards, memories, stubs, stickers, etc. so I've been pasting them in my journal and annotating like you're doing with the smash book. So I'm going to do that instead of just writing thoughts and feelings. It does make for such creative feelings and thoughts. Glad I found your blog - clicked from my Chic Chick Media widget.

I'm going to do your 31 days of creativity...

By the way, your photos is beautiful: Natural beauty at our age (I'm 43) is a blessing. Have a great weekend.

  8. Happy Birthday to YOU!!! Today (10/14) is my brother's birthday and Monday (10/17) is my dad's birthday. My mom's birthday was 10/01 - bless her soul. I'm the only odd ball in the family as I'm a June baby.

Like you, I've been drawn to the Smash Book craze. That is so cool that you've started one beginning with your birthday - very clever of you, my dear youngin'.

So, I will start one too. I just got back from vacation and have some cool snippets and stories that will fit nicely into a book. Yep, I'm gonna do it. Thanks for the push!!
